WHAT WE DO

ABOUT US

In our band's history, the early events laid the foundation for a reputation of great music and service to the community. One important moment happened in January 1907 when we played our pipes in the town hall alongside respected guest artists.

During that summer, our music delighted people in the Market Square with an evening program that charmed audiences. The next July, Pipe Major Tom Bertram and Piper William Grossart played moving tunes at the cottage hospital, showing our dedication to supporting our community.

Tom Bertram, a stalwart of our band, led as Pipe Major from 1907 well into the 1920s, while Willie Grossart took up the mantle, guiding our melodies until 1948. Their enduring dedication fueled our musical journey and shaped our identity.

As the tumult of the Great War swept across the land, many of our members answered the call of duty, serving valiantly in regiments like the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, Royal Scots, Cameron Highlanders, and the Coldstream Guards.

The shadow of another world conflict loomed with Hitler's invasion of Poland in 1939, drawing our band members once more into the crucible of war. In their absence, the indomitable spirit of our local Boys’ Brigade Pipe Band nobly stood in, ensuring that the harmonies of community and resilience continued to resonate at various events and functions.

Through the ebb and flow of history, our band's commitment to musical excellence and community solidarity remains unwavering, echoing through the ages as a testament to our enduring spirit.
